Tuesday, June 4 | 7:00 p.m. | Fairfield Fun Center
St. John the Evangelist in West Chester first began a mission relationship with Church of the Good Shepherd in Campton, Kentucky in the late 1990's. Originally based around food, clothing, school supplies, and toy drives, eventually a desire for a more hands-on service opportunity emerged.
What resulted was the annual Hope Mountain Camp. Every June, high school and college students, along with adult volunteers travel to Campton to host a day camp for local Appalachian children aged 8-12. The goal always two-fold: build a relationship between our two communities and instill a sense of pride among the local children for their heritage.
We are excited to continue this time-honored tradition. The mission trip is only possible with the right number of volunteers. We hope that you will pray and consider joining us for the week!
All volunteers must complete the registration, permission, and medical release form. A $50 registration fee is due at the time of registration.

HIGH SCHOOL & COLLEGE-AGED VOLUNTEERS serve as mentors for the local children. Each volunteer will be paired with at least one child, aged 8-12 for the week to help them with activities like arts and crafts, kayaking, obstacle courses, and hiking. Volunteers will also be with children for lunch and afternoon pool time before they go home for the evening.
ADULT VOLUNTEERS serve as chaperones, activity leaders, and drivers. They also prepare and serve lunch for the whole group daily. With campers and volunteers, than can be well over 60 people each day who need to be fed. The trip would not be possible without these adult volunteers.
Campers return to their homes each afternoon at 2 p.m., which leaves our volunteer group plenty of time together outside of mission. Organized activities each evening like live music, dancing, rock climbing, and prayer are available, in addition to plenty of free time for relaxation at the end of each day. Dinner is eaten together each evening.

About Tour: Rev. John Rankin and Mr. John P. Parker (an African American) were active abolitionists and were an integral part of the Underground Railroad in Ripley, helping fugitive slaves cross the Ohio River from Kentucky on their dangerous journey going north to freedom, many on their way to Canada. John Rankin, his family, Mr. Parker and their fellow abolitionists in Ripley and area towns risked their lives to guide thousands of runaways safely across the river into the free state of Ohio. They cared for them in their homes and then guided them on to safe houses on the Railroad. We will learn more about these extraordinary brave men and the role they played in the antislavery movement.
ANOINTING MASS: SATURDAY, JUNE 22
Anointing of the Sick is for the healing and spiritual strengthening of those who are impaired by sickness or old age, or undergoing an upcoming procedure. A common misconception is that this sacrament is for those who are dying. This sacrament is for the all who are sick, so we invite you if you feel so inclined to receive anointing and unite to the passion of Christ for strength, peace, and the courage to endure.
